MiesHoraMies Hora has had a long career in the design field, where his experience includes branding, corporate identity, advertising, positioning, environmental design, wayfinding, and photography. Mies founded Hora Associates in 1980, and Ultimate Symbol in 1993. He has directed its efforts since then to bring non-verbal communications and symbol systems up to international standards. In that capacity, he has embarked on projects such as the design and implementation of an extensive system of pictograms for the signage of the vast MTA transportation network in New York City, and developed a wayfinding system for the new CBD (Central Business District) in Beijing. The CBD is a multi-level project currently being built which includes eleven towers—one of them the tallest in Beijing. He is also author of the standard design reference Official Signs & Icons 3. In addition, he co-authored the four-volume series of best-selling design reference books, Design Elements–A Visual Reference, upon which the CD and book Design Elements 5 by Ultimate Symbol is based. Designed and edited by Mies, ELLA: A Biography of the Legendary Ella Fitzgerald, will be published by Ultimate Symbol in February of 2018.

 

LanceWyman1Lance Wyman is the principal of Lance Wyman Ltd., a New York environmental graphic design office established in 1979. He is a specialist in branding/wayfinding systems for public environments and is credited with helping to define the field of environmental graphics. Lance’s graphic system for the Mexico ’68 Olympic Games is cited as “…one of the most successful in the evolution of visual identification.” His early landmarks also include branding/wayfinding systems for the Mexico City Metro, the Washington Mall, the National Zoo, and the Minnesota Zoo which was selected by Time magazine as one of the ten best designs of 1981. Lance is an SEGD Fellow and winner of the prestigious AIGA Gold Medal for lifetime achievement in design.

 

BrettKinkelBrett Kinkel is currently acting as Assistant Art Director, Designer, and Web Developer for HuggaMind, Inc. Brett was an initial strategist during HuggaMind’s inception and has been integral to the company’s conceptualization and development as a premiere source for educational and caregiver applications for mobile devices. His collaborative background with Mies Hora on wayfinding and symbol system projects, along with his design knowledge within the field, makes him a valued contributor for significon.com content. Brett also works on high-end corporate branding and business initiatives for many of the brands within the PepsiCo portfolio. Brett has a BFA from the State University of New York at New Paltz and currently resides in Westchester, NY.

 

NickSientyNicolas Sienty is an Assistant Art Director/Designer at Ultimate Symbol. An experienced martial arts practitioner and BFA graduate of the Conservatory of Art & Design, SUNY Purchase, he is currently studying motion graphics at NYU in New York City.
